The shorter names have larger letters to reach to the edges of the stars. I repeated this process for each name and star and made each one a different color to prepare for cutting on different mats. Once I was happy with the placement, I welded the star and the name together by placing a box around the entire design to group it on the canvas and clicked on 'Weld' on the bottom right of the layers panel. I would also connect the first and last letter to the star. I wanted a script-type font, so all or most of the letters would connect. I typed the text for the first name and selected the Salut font. Now I was ready to add the names to my stars. I learned my lesson after having to recreate designs on several occasions. Tip: I always make an extra of any design I create on my canvas and make it a different color to keep it separate. I needed 7 for my grandchildren, but I made one extra just in case. I duplicated my star outline to get 8 of them. It did occur to me later that I could have placed the names on the stars on a slant, and that would have given them a nice look, too. It also worked well because of the ends of the foam snowflakes that are not shown on my canvas. I lined up the points on either side with the grid lines to make sure the star was straight. I then rotated the star for hanging purposes because there would be more room between two points to fit the names in, and I wanted them to appear straight across. Permanent vinyl on the water bottle and strong iron on vinyl for the basket and hat.I changed the color of my star outline to black. For this sports mom basket that I made for my son’s fundraiser, I used 2 types of vinyl. There are different types of HTV – flocked, foil, patterned, and more. It’s used the most for making shirts and clothes but there are other uses as well. A lot of people call this HTV so if you hear that, you’ll know what they are referring to. It can be applied with an iron or an Easy Press. What is heat transfer vinyl and why would you want to use it? HTV is a product that’s adhered by heat. I also really like their Gridlined Transfer Tape and use it for everything. Oracal permanent vinyl was used for these cute arrows for girls camp. I especially like their sheets (as opposed to rolls) and have purchased Siser and Oracal several times. We had to make a ton of words and symbols cut out of vinyl and using Expressions Vinyl made it soooo easy. I was able to get Expressions Vinyl for our Girls Camp Crafts. Several crafty friends raved about Expressions Vinyl and I knew I needed to try it. Hats can be tricky – to iron it on, I rolled up a towel and pressed my cut out words to my Easy Press to the hat. I prefer to stock up when it’s on sale (online or in store) because I don’t like having to run out last minute to try and find what I’m looking for.įor this “Sports Mom” hat I used Cricut Iron On Vinyl. It is often found on sale at stores like Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Joann’s. It can make a project beyond frustrating if it’s hard to weed.Ĭricut vinyl is easy to use, great quality and can be found online and in stores.
